‘Seeking knowledge is an obligation upon every Muslim.’
[Source: Sunan Ibn Mājah 224].
As Muslims, all knowledge should be based on the Quran and Hadith: ‘Indeed, Allâh conferred a great favour on the believers when He sent among them a Messenger (Muhammad) from among themselves, reciting unto them His Verses (the Qur’ân), and purifying them (from sins by their following him), and instructing them (in) the Book (the Qur’an) and Al-Hikmah.
Based on the above,
-
I do believe that seeking knowledge is a lifelong endeavor that begins from home. Thus, as parents, they do play an important role in inculcating the interest in seeking knowledge among their children, prior to their formal education in public schools.Learning theory emphasizes on experiential learning (learning-by-doing), and
-
I do believe that students would gain better knowledge via experiencing/doing what they are currently learning. For instance for ASC303 - Financial Mathematics, students are required to examine present and future value on a financial product. They are able to comprehend better the subject matter as and when they attempt to solve the problems via applying relevant techniques that they have acquired. Additionally, speakers from the industries are also invited to share their industrial information and experiences.
-
I do believe that by providing such opportunity, the students would be in a better position when they are about to enter the job market. With such exposure, students are familiarized to the prevailing problems in the real-world as they are updated with the latest information, demand and challenges by the experts in various fields. Besides delivering accurate and up to date information to students, having a two ways communication studying environment is of importance too. Discussions could be done either during face-to-face discussion in classroom or via virtual discussion sessions. During each session, I do emphasize on recalling and recapping salient points, during the first and last few minutes during each meeting in order to ensure and to enforce students understanding relating to the topic.
-
I do believe that students should be excellent in both curriculum as well as co-curriculum. By involving the latter, via joining club/societies, students are able to build up self-confidence, acquire soft skills in handling/carrying out various functions/meetings, and they would become creative and proactive as to ensure that the scheduled programs are accomplished.
-
I do believe that being entrepreneurial should also be inculcated in the students’ learning process and in their mindset as this skill could assist them to generate income for their current and also future wellbeing and survival. With the industrial revolution 4.0 technologies such as Internet of Things, as well as the existence of borderless economy, business dealing could be agreed upon via online dealings and could be executed by individuals all over the world.
In summary, acquiring knowledge is a must for all Muslims. An individual should seek knowledge for the sake of Allah. By providing a comprehensive studying environment for students to gain knowledge, I do believe that in return, these students who are well equip with the relevant and various knowledge and experiences, would be able to assist the country and their societies in overcoming the various prevailing problems.
